Biography
Philipp Griess is an award-winning German director and producer.
With ARCTIC DRIFT he filmed the biggest arctic expedition ever. Broadcasted on PBS Nova, Channel 4, Amazon, ARD and 177 other territories, it won a Grierson award for best science documentary and was finalist at Jackson Wild. He returned 2 years later to the Arctic to film the first scientific dive to the seafloor below North Pole in EXPEDITION ARKTIS 2.
STORMRIDE (RTL+/Fremantle) portrays the first German sailor in the world’s thoughts sailing race around the globe. HISTORY OF SURVIVAL (ZDF, arte) investigates diverse survival strategies of human societies in extreme landscapes.
In TATTOO (arte / Autentic int. distribution) he tells the fascinating story of signs through space and time.
With HOPE he just embarked on a journey to explore the hidden human superpower, featuring Jane Goodall and many more.
Philipp believes in documentaries as a celebration of life. Embedded In the core of his films is the curiosity about the incredible human power to find solutions. Against all odds.
Born in the Black Forest he completed his diploma in history in Berlin before moving to Bolzano, Italy, graduating at the ZeLIG film school in cinematography for documentary film.
Philipp is father of two boys and is based in Berlin, Germany.
